Nelly is ready to take off from his abandoned Missouri digs. The hip-hop star has placed an unfinished remodel in Wildwood, MO, on the market for $599,000.
This is a precipitous drop from the listed price of $2.5 million in 2002, when the home was last on the market.
The St. Louis native reportedly snapped up the property, billed as “Tuscan-style architecture,” as an investment opportunity. Sarah Tadlock of Keller Williams is now the listing agent.
Mansion in Missouri
Regretfully, the Grammy winner’s handling of this property is less than stellar.
Nelly was supposed to purchase the property and then sell it with a “contractor friend” a few decades ago, according to TMZ. And even though it seems like some work has started, the project now appears to have been abandoned a long time ago.
The house is in a condition of decay after twenty years. The house is an excellent offer for those who are familiar with rehabs.
Just remember to factor in a sizable expense for remodelling and make plans to either move in or flip the finished project.
It’s a really nice house. It’s very amazing,” remarks Coco Bloomfield, a Dielmann Sotheby’s International Realty agent in the area who isn’t connected to the listing.
Recently, Bloomfield and a prospective buyer did take a tour of the property. She points out that some of the improvements—some simple kitchen updates, for instance—didn’t go with the home’s upmarket design.
She puts the estimated cost of renovations to get the property back into livable shape at about $500,000, but notes that depending on how luxurious a makeover the buyer chooses, the cost could easily rise to $1 million.
The renovation and potential expansion of the kitchen, as well as the addition of flooring, bathroom renovations, and pool maintenance, are all required.
“After you’re done, you’d have quite the property,” adds Bloomfield. “The views are magnificent. If you choose to go through the trouble of renovations, you might very well make back the money on the property.
She points out that there have already been several offers on the property and thinks the house will probably sell for much more than what was listed.
There are 228 houses for sale in Wildwood at a median asking price of $500,000.
Greater land area and larger homes are associated with higher local costs. For instance, a neighbouring 7,500-square-foot, 2016 house with a 3-acre “backyard oasis” is on the market for $1.95 million and is not yet up for sale.
Makeover Missouri
The roughly 11,000 square foot opulent house has six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. The 1998-built estate is described as a “amazing investment opportunity” in the listing and is stated to have “some of the best views in Missouri.”
A two-story entryway leads to the enormous, volumetric spaces with high ceilings. Stunning vaulted ceilings, columns, and glass walls that showcase the Meramec River valley are among the details.
A great room, separate dining room, breakfast room, cinema room, gaming room, library, fireplaces, and several balconies are reportedly features of the floor design. There are several areas where the unfinished space is awaiting the installation of flooring.
The 12 acres of grounds outside have a three-car garage, a pool, a hot tub, and a basketball court. But before the next pool party, the gardens and water features will require extensive restoration. There’s also a half collapsed wall in the backyard that requires attention.
According to the listing details, the house is around 30 miles from St. Louis and only a few minutes from the Hidden Valley Sky Resort in Eureka.
The last time the house made headlines was in 2009, when several gadgets and video games were purportedly taken during a break-in. That was not when Nelly was there.
Nelly’s former St. Louis residence, a lakeside ranch-style property, was highlighted in a 2002 episode of “MTV Cribs” and showcased its opulent motor court. The four-bedroom pad with a boat dock was allegedly sold by the rapper in 2010.
Their home, a mansion in the gated neighbourhood of Mountain View Estates, is 6,158 square feet and has six bedrooms.
The expansive space has a dining room, living room, and gourmet kitchen accessible from the formal foyer. There’s a wet bar and fireplace in the family area. In addition to a huge balcony and two bathrooms, the master suite has a fireplace.
The outside area features a sport court, putting green, pool, and spa, as well as outdoor cooking and dining places. The best of all? Home remodelling tasks are not necessary.
