Prison in West Virginia
A site where many people have been killed, executed, or committed suicide.

The West Virginia State Penitentiary is widely considered to be one of the most haunted prisons in the United States. This is a night and a place you won’t want to miss!

Since its opening in 1876, the West Virginia State Pen (formerly known as Moundsville Prison) has seen several murders, suicides, and 94 executions. The number of detainees who died as a direct result of beatings and other forms of violence meted out by prison staff is shocking.

An guy on death row in 1931 had his head severed clean off during his execution. The death penalty was typically carried out by hanging until 1951, when electrocution replaced it as the method of choice. The jail still has the electric chair, popularly known as “Old Sparky” due to its role in the execution of nine inmates.

Many men’s spirits are still said to linger inside the prison’s confines after roughly a thousand deaths there. Walking around the cell blocks, you could see one of their ghosts in the shower stalls or hear their ghostly cries.

One of the most haunted places in the state, it has been featured on various paranormal TV series including Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters.

Join us for a night you won’t soon forget if you believe you have what it takes to face the ghosts of this historic jail.
